Center for Precision Engineering

The Center for Precision Engineering (CPE) at SMEE was founded in 1963and it is a national-class center of precision engineering research in China. A Part of CPE was certificated as a key laboratory of Micro System and Micro-manufacturing by the Education Ministt3, of China. Its research areas focus on diamond tool design and fabrication, ultra-precision machining, ultra-precision grinding, ultra-precision machine tool, air bearing, ultra-precision machining process control, ultra-precision unconventional machining, macro and nano machining, measuring and testing for ultra-precision manufacturing, assembly for ultra-precision systems.

Center for Advanced Production Technology

The Center for Advanced Production Technology at SMEE was founded in 1986 with support from Japanese Government. Its research areas focus on computer-aided design and manufacturing, enterprise modeling and simulation, computer integrated manufacturing, flexible manufacturing, agile manufacturing, management, industrial engineering.

Department of Mechanical Design

The Department of Mechanical Design at SMEE was founded in 1998: the former of it was a part of the department of mechanical engineering founded in 1950s. In spite of offering theory and methodology courses related to mechanical design to undergraduate and graduate students, the department undertakes a broad range of research work related to tribology, computer-aided design, mechanism design, computational mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, acoustics and its control, vehicles for moon exploring, theories for mechanical element design, computer graphics.

Department of Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Manufacturing Engineering at SMEE was founded in 1998; the former of it was a part of the department of mechanical engineering founded in 1950s, in spite of offering courses related to manufacturing engineering to undergraduate and graduate students, the department undertakes a broad range of research work related to machining technology, machine tool, unconventional machining, numerical control of machine tool, machining process optimization, computer-aided manufacturing, computer-aided process planning, computer integrated manufacturing, flexible manufacturing, agile manufacturing, modeling and simulation of machining process, manufacturing process management, measuring and testing for manufacturing, assembly, digital manufacturing.

Department of Mechatronic Engineering

The Department of Mechatronic Engineering at SMEE was founded in 1998: the former of it was a part of the Department of Instrument Science and Technology founded in 1950s. In spite of offering courses related to control and automation of machinery and manufacturing process to undergraduate and graduate students, the department undertakes a broad range of research work related to machining technology, numerical control of machine tool, computer-aided manufacturing, computer-aided process planning, computer integrated manufacturing, flexible manufacturing, manufacturing process management, measuring and testing for manufacturing, assembly, simulation and test device development for aviation and aerospace, industrial robots.

Department of Fluid Control and Automation

The Department of Fluid Control and Automation at SMEE was re-organized in 1998 on the base of the relative research and education groups from the former Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Energy Engineering. In spite of offering undergraduate and graduate students the courses related to hydromechanics and fluid control, the department undertakes a broad range of research work related to hydromechanics, modeling and simulation of fluid control process, numerical control of fluid-droved machinery, elements for fluid-droved machinery, measuring and testing for fluid-droved machinery, simulation and test device for aviation and aerospace.

Department of Engineering Machinery and Logistics Technology

The Department of Engineering Machinery and Logistics Technology at SMEE was founded in 1999; the former of it was a part of the department of engineering machinery founded in 1950s. In spite of offering courses related to engineering machinery and Logistics Technology to undergraduate and graduate students, the department undertakes a broad range of research work related to engineering machinery design, computer-aided design, mechanism design, computational mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, finite element analysis, diagnosis and monitoring for engineering machinery, logistics equipment and supply chain management.
